Driving Directions to Black Mesa
Directions from the West
From Interstate 25, near Raton, New Mexico, take Exit 451. Take US 64 East 28 miles to the town of Capulin, New Mexico. Make a left on Route 325. Go East 70.5 miles to the town of Kenton, Oklahoma. About 0.5 miles East of Kenton, make a left on Colorado Road. Follow the signs to Black Mesa Nature Preserve. You will travel around the East side of Black Mesa. There is a parking lot to your left. There is a stile over a fence which marks the beginning of the trail. Don't forget to stop at the Kenton Merc. It's owned and operated by fellow highpointer Allan Griggs.
Directions from Amarillo, Texas
From the intersection of Interstate 40D and US 87, take US 87, which becomes US 287, 118 miles to the junction of State Route 325. Take Route 325 35.4 miles to Colorado Road, just East of Kenton, Oklahoma. Make a right onto Colorado Road. Follow the signs to Black Mesa Nature Preserve. You will travel around the East side of Black Mesa. There is a parking lot to your left. There is a stile over a fence which marks the beginning of the trail. Don't forget to stop at the Kenton Merc. From the intersection of US 385 and US 287 in Lamar, Colorado, take US 287 South 96 miles to the junction of Route 325. Take Route 325 35.4 miles to Colorado Road, just East of Kenton, Oklahoma.
